My name is Evan. I am just old enough to remember the old internet (unfettered internet access in elementary school), hence the web1.0 site. I grew up in and currently reside in the Philly area. I love making lists, so part of the purpose of this site is to have a place to write stuff down, in conjunction with a general disdain for random apps and services that may or may not be supported in 5 years.
I would describe myself as a life-long problem solver and scientifically minded. Clicking around this site may indicate as much, as well as the career in engineering of course. But I also spend alot of time following intuition, a contrast I haven't considered deeply and may explore here, as well as other thoughts on various topics. I've never been a good writer, so bear with me.
As for hobbies and interests, those that are the most steady for me are food/cooking and rock climbing. I come from a family of good cooks, and I have been cooking and baking my whole life as a result. I'd consider it my first hobby, the thing I am best at. I began rock climbing in my freshman year of undergrad, and have not looked back. Primarily I am a boulderer (lives in PA..), but consider myself competent in single and multi-pitch sport and trad as well. Looking to explore alpinism soon..
I spend the remainder of my free time chasing other various whims that vary wildly in how much focus I have in them. The list, in not particular order, includes: backpacking, bushcraft, gardening, photography, tech/maker stuff, lino-cut, woodworking, fossil hunting (most recent addition). I also have a cat named Toothpick.
I am a mechanical engineer specializing in R&D, based in the Philly area. My undergraduate degree is in Mechanical Engineering, with significant coursework in Data Science. I am primarily interested in laboratory/workshop/test plant environments.
My experience includes both academic and nose-to-tail industrial research; the latter of which including the full process from customer sampling, technical hypothesis, test stand construction, experiment design, testing, data analysis, and final implementation. Further details on my specific roles can be found in my resume, below.
